Prepare for Your First Visit

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation during which Dr. Liao or Dr. Karwowska will review your medical and surgical history, and review radiographs and imaging. Additional imaging may be required depending on the complexity of the case. They will also discuss your diagnosis and thoroughly explain treatment and anesthesia options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to allocate the appropriate amount of time for treatment for the procedure.

Before Your Consultation

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays, if applicable.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit. This is the law.

Before Surgery

A preoperative consultation and physical examination are mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. On the day of your scheduled surgery, please do not eat or drink ANYTHING for eight (8) hours prior to your scheduled procedure. You will also need an adult to drive you home. If you have had any upper respiratory symptoms in the week prior to the procedure (cough, cold, post-nasal drip, sore throat, etc), please call the office ahead of time to discuss with our surgeons, as upper respiratory infections can interfere with general anesthesia administration.

X-Rays and CT-Scans

If your dentist or physician has provided you with x-rays, please bring them with you. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility. All x-ray systems in our office are advanced and fully digital.
